The fact that a paint material which cannot be destroyed completely by skin is processed to the surface of under skin with a given technique is the meaning of tattoo. To reach this part, chink and holes open with a sharp tool.

With the help pf needle and thorn and so on ,essential paint material is put to these open chinks. Or with a technique used by Eskimos, after the skin is pierced by a needle, a thread with soot is inserted to the skin and a paint is fixed under the skin. Another technique is to fire compounds including gun powder or saltpeter by spreading. After these processes, especially the process of burning the skin, there exists a dark or blue coloured burn mark not leaving the skin any time.

The most used paint material while tattooing is soot. Along with soot, indigo, c metal powder, burned and squeezed bone powder, kinds of plant cores, saffron and henna are also employed. Spots on skin may be much like the tone of red according to these mentioned materials..
